Make This Funky Steampunk Jetpack

Airship in the shop? You’ll need another mode of transport.

Enter the jet pack. The portable, comfortable means to get you where you need to go in your post-apocalyptic, neo-victorian universe.

And the best part? You can make it yourself! Just follow along with this handy video tutorial or the written instructions included with the pattern.

This is a mid-level project for the industrious foamsmith. I designed the jetpack pattern with steampunk cosplay in mind, but you could use the base for any kind of jetpackery you like!

The jetpack consists of two foam cylinders attached to a main foam body with all sorts of fancy embellishments that you may add (or subtract) to your hearts content. I made mine using a 6mm EVA foam mat and 2mm craft foam, painted it up, then created the metal look using DecoArt Metallic Lustre.

Here’s one of my jetpacks in the wild!

I’ve been so thrilled to see how others have used this design for their own steampunk costumes!

So what are you waiting for? The sky awaits!
